Are the reds the same colour red?
An optical illusion happens because the many parts of the eye capture images and colours at variety of speeds, this on certain occasions means that wrong images are sent to the brain. The brain gets this information but in reality, the eye only captures some visual information at any certain time, and our brain processes this and fills in the space to give the impression of continuous movement. This is even more highlighted in a television which in reality shows a different image 25 times a second but our brain doesn't capture the changes.
